The purpose of the dew point meter is to be able to read the temperature at which the water, which the CO₂ consists of, is set free. 

The principle of the dew point meter is that a flow of CO₂ is lead through a nozzle pipe to the surface of a cooled cup, and when dew is developed on the surface, the temperature is read on the temperature gauge, as the dewpoint.
